About Us

Odyssey was founded in October 2008 by one of the Midlands' leading corporate financiers, Mike Yiannis, and a group of high net worth private investors. This was in the midst of the credit crunch and the start of the worst recession in 80 years: "fortune favours the brave", as they say!

But whilst Odyssey is a young business, we are an established team of very experienced and well connected professionals. Our principals EACH have atleast 18 years experience in a wide range of professional advisory roles during our careers, including:

• Originating and successfully completing over 120 lead advisory transactions: buying, selling, merging, refinancing, restructuring – there isn't a deal type we haven't advised on (apart from IPOs/ plc work, we leave that to other experts). The ticker tape above is a small selection of our deal credentials.
• Providing financial due diligence reviews for banks, venture capitalists, corporates and private investors, giving us a valuable insight into what buyers or investors look for.
• Working closely with clients in most sectors including manufacturing, engineering, support services, recruitment, training, construction, hospitality, leisure, law, building products, healthcare, technology, internet, consumer goods, retail........we bring our diverse sector experience to each client assignment as no two situations are ever the same. We believe advisers CANNOT be sector experts, we leave that to our clients – we are experts in advising!
• Advising on a wide range of non-transaction related matters such as strategic reviews, business planning and financial forecasting, improving financial systems, controls and reporting, corporate governance, group reorganisations, bank facility renewals, tax planning ideas (we spot opportunities and then bring the experts in), recruiting, remuneration policies, introducing new business opportunities from our network and anything else that we believe can add value to our clients.
• Winning awards (Mike Yiannis was Young Dealmaker of the Year 2004), being the most cited dealmaker from Birmingham in the 5 years to 2008 (source: Corpfinworldwide), being on the West Mercia Enterprise Board, a member of Birmingham Business Focus steering group, lecturing at universities, speaking at events and public seminars and providing editorial in various publications.
• Oh, and we're naturally fully qualified professionals, some of us being Oxford graduates and chartered accountants with a "Big Firm" accountancy training.

And then there's Odyssey's Investor Group – a network of private investors, some of whom are shareholders in Odyssey, who will make selective investments in business opportunities. They have a wide portfolio of business interests spanning the world across many industries. Suffice to say, they've been there, seen it, done it!

We have a very close relationship with our Investor Group and can mobilise significant capital quickly and efficiently when needed.
