Mike Yiannis - Director
Mike founded Odyssey with private investors so has been at the firm since it started in October 2008.
Life Before Odyssey
Trained and qualified at Arthur Andersen, moving into corporate finance in 1995. When Andersen was brought down by Enron, Mike headed up the corporate finance team at a smaller regional firm called Friend LLP before setting up Odyssey.
Oxford University graduate and Chartered Accountant.
Mike has been a corporate financier since 1995, completing over 100 transactions with deal sizes typically up to £100m (although some have been up to a billion!). He has advised on all types of deals: buying, selling, raising funds, private equity and restructures, acting for corporates, financial institutions and entrepreneurs. Mike has experience in most sectors including support services, TMT, energy, financial services, food and drink, manufacturing and automotive.
He has also completed numerous advisory assignments and reports covering many topics such as strategic reviews, growth plans, exit reviews, market assessments, business valuations, financial reporting and due diligence.
Mike acts as retained adviser or non-executive director to a number of clients including an international engineering consultancy, a trade finance lender, a private equity group, an automotive business and a national chain of restaurants.
He is a member of our investor partners’ Board, overseeing portfolio businesses and new investments.
Mike’s other past activities have included being on the West Mercia Enterprise Board, a member of Birmingham Business Focus steering group, lecturing at universities, speaking at events and public seminars and editorial in various publications. He has also won a few deal making awards in his time.
Outside of Work
The little free time Mike has is spent with his wife, two girls and son. He also tries (but fails miserably) to keep fit and gets depressed following Arsenal.
