Life Before Odyssey
Leon trained at Midlands accountancy practice, Friend LLP, where he spent 17 years, ultimately heading up the Transaction Support Services team.
Chartered Certified Accountant and Sheffield University graduate.
Leon is experienced across various areas of professional practice, starting life in audit and business assurance before spending the last 13 years focussed primarily on corporate transactions. He has completed over 50 deals in lead advisory and transaction support capacities in that time.
Leon has advised on a range of deals from corporate acquisitions and disposals to MBOs, MBIs, fund raises and restructuring. Clients have included corporates, venture capital funds, private equity, financial institutions, management teams and entrepreneurs. Sector experience is varied, working with clients across FM support services, manufacturing, automotive, consultancy, food services, market research and energy.
Leon has also carried out a number of financial reviews for financial institutions and corporate acquirers. These include due diligence, pre-lend reviews and IBRs. Focus is always on adding value to the process by offering opinions and solutions, using knowledge gained from over 20 years’ advisory experience.
In addition to transactional based work, Leon has also carried out various ad hoc assignments including preparation of strategy papers, business plans, share valuations, shareholder remuneration planning and exit reviews. A particular strength lies in the development of complex financial models.
Over the years Leon has also acted in ad hoc financial controller/ finance director rolls, practical experience which has often proved invaluable in deals.
Outside of Work
As punishment for a sin in a former life, Leon is cursed with the burden of following Aston Villa where he spends Saturday afternoons suffering with his son. Away from the football Leon has hung up his hockey stick and is now chief operating officer of “Dad’s taxi”.
